What I Think is Important

1) Job Creation - Plattsburgh will always survive but in order to thrive we need to create more jobs. Not just any jobs but jobs with a future. The top three fastest growing fields in the United States today are in the computer industry. Over the last two years I have created three new computer related degree programs at Clinton Community College. I have talked to hundreds of local area business people to find out what specific skills they are looking for and implemented them into these programs. As county legislator I would seek out state and federal matching grants that could be used to create more high tech jobs in Plattsburgh.

 2) Open Government – Balance is important in any organization. Currently republicans hold a 9 to 1 majority. As a result many important issues are voted upon without adequate discussion. Short-term solutions are often proposed for long-term problems, such as increasing the tonnage at the landfill. As a county legislator I will vote my conscience. I will not be pressured into voting for something I do not believe in.

3) Workers First – At Clinton Community College I spent two years as union treasurer, two terms on the negotiating team and five years as Union President. I support workers in their fight for reasonable wages and safety in the workplace. Let’s cut waste not wages.
