I have been in commercial computer work 43 years plus four 4 years military electronic reconnaisance. After my Air Force service, I started with Remington Rand Univac on the UNIVAC 1 in 1954 in Univac Park, Minneapolis,Mn. and my first installations were in Dayton, Ohio at Wright-Patterson Air Development Center, Projrct Blue Book and Gentile AFB Supply center , also Fairbon,OHIO. "The UNIVAC" 1 was a vacuum tube machine, also it had channels of mercury for storage in place of RAM, for mass storage it had steel magnetic tapes, each of the tapes weighted about thirty pounds. My next major machine was with ElecroData on the DATATRON, it had transistors in place of vacuum tubes and used core storage in place of RAM. I then worked on several transistorized computers for Burroughs. My first major micro-processor based computers were the Burroughs A series(A6 thru A16). The next major proccessors I worked on were the Sperry Products, after Burroughs and Sperry merged and became Unisys Corporation. I am Data Communications specialist and I worked on Timeplex NODAL Procesors, PACKET switching networks, large Phone NETWORKS and LANS. I took early retirement from UNISYS Corporation 1990 and hired on as Programmer with one of my UNISYS computer customers "Clinton County"in city of Plattsburgh. While there, I wrote Clinton County's enhanced 911 system and developed it down to a 1 second call response. Other counties later used it as a model for their 911 setup. I wrote it in Coboll. I worked with Clinton Couty computer department for 3 years then decided go on and retire from full job commitments so my wife and I could enjoy travelling and visting our childeren and families. I still do consulting, setting up Computers( Desktops, LapTops) also installation, repair, write software and training for our Church and friends. I write webpages and setup Domains. I am very active on the Wide world Web(WWW).

Here is the walk inside of the "UNIVAC l" Processor itself"

Here is one of seven mercury tube tanks of UNIVAC memory channels MEMORY TANKS. A memory tank consists of two concentric cylinders. The inner tank is made of stainless steel and contains the column of mercury that is used in common by all the channels in the tank. The inner tank is 223/4 inches long and 33/4 inches in diameter (figure 1-19).

Here IS ONE Magnetic Tape Unit--- made of metal alloy, very heavy.
Here are THE Tape DRIVES Lined on side Of THE UNIVAC 1
Here I am at my ocilloscope near the Tape Drives.
