Mr. White's Math Class Requirements

This is the section where the class rules are stored. It is my hope that both my students and their parents will take the time to read these over carefully.

A. Items you will need each day for class:
  1. Your writing tools including a PEN (blue or black) and pencil.
  2. Your notebook, either looseleaf or spiral, and either single or compound.
  3. Your textbook, which must be covered at all times. Each student must sign for an issued textbook.
  4. Your calculator. Students MUST provide their own calculators. We are recommending that each student purchase their own scientific calculator. This type of calculator (apx. $8 to $10) will be demonstrated in ALL math classes at the approrate times. Students will NOT be allowed to use a calculator during all parts of classes, quizzes and tests, but rather only during specific parts of classes, quizzes and tests.
  5. Your straight edge. Possibly a ruler with both English (in.) & Metric (mm) units.
B. Students are expected to ...
  1. ... follow directions the first time they are given.
  2. ... sit in assigned seats. You will be assigned a seat before the end of the second week. You will be assigned a NEW seat if the need arises.
  3. ... report to class on time. You must be in your seat and ready to work, with all of your materials with you (ie. homework, textbook, pen/pencil, paper, and other supplies), WHEN the tardy bell rings.
  4. ... take notes during class. Not all of the material to be taught in this class is to be found in the textbook.
  5. ... do ALL of the homework assignments. Each assignment is important and so is each problem in the assignments.
C. Student should NOT ...
  1. ... TALK during class. You must raise your hand and wait to be called on.
  2. ... FORGET their materials at home or in their lockers.
  3. ... report LATE to class without a pass. If you enter late have a late pass with you or you will lose one (1) point on your class participation grade.
  4. ... EAT food, candy, etc., or drink water, juice, etc. during class.
  5. ... CHEAT!
D. Absences:
  1. Mathematics is a subject which will require the best of attendance.
  2. If it is necessary to be out of class please:
    • .. call a classmate to find out the assignment and the material covered in class.
    • .. call the guidance office and have your assignments sent home.
    • .. report to the teacher when you return to school to be sure your work is "up-to-date."
  3. Asbences will possibly cause you to fall behind the class. This is a fact of life, and is not a punishment to anyone.
E. Method of Evaluation (Grades):
  1. Weights:
    • Quizzes ....................................................... 1 (each)
    • Tests .......................................................... 2 (each)
    • Spot Checked Homework Average ........ Twice each Quarter
    • Class Participation ................................... Twice each Quarter
  2. Quizzes:
    • Most quizzes will NOT be announced ahead of time.
    • All quizzes will be limited in scope and length.
    • Any of the quizzes may be made up before the end of the quarter.
  3. Tests:
    • Tests will always be announced ahead of time.
    • Tests will cover all of the material in a basic unit of study, and most will contain questions from previous units of study.
    • Since tests are always announced ahead of time, they can NOT be made up.
  4. Homework:
    • All homework assignments will be spot checked.
    • Spot checking refers to evaluation of attempting the homework assignments.
  5. Class Participation & Bonus:
    • One mark each five (5) weeks will be based on the teacher's interpretation of the students attendance, effort, and preparation.
    • Each quarter the teacher will make available to the entire class at least one bonus assignment. This assignment is extra and not required, but the point(s) earned will be added to this grade.
  6. Make-up Quizzes:
    • All students will be required to take ALL quizzes and tests. This will also include those who may have been absent prior to or on the day of the quiz/test. However, anyone may take a make-up quiz if they desire.
    • All make-up quizzes must be completed before the end of the quarter in which the original was given or the original grade will be assigned. It is the responsibility of the student to make the appointment for the make-up! ALL make-up quizzes must be taken BEFORE or AFTER shcool hours by prearranged appointments.
  7. Extra help:
    • The teacher will inform the students of his daily teaching schedule so that they may know what times during the day he is available for extra help.
    • The teacher will also be staying after school most Mondays and Thursdays until 4:00 PM for extra help. The students are reminded to make an appointment!
