Obituary SYLVESTER GIRARD

FUNERAL services for Sylvester L. Girard, who died at the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital yesterday, will he held at the home,1873 IroquoiS avenue. Monday, at 8:30 a.m. and at St. Catherines Church, Seminole Avenue and Sy1vester street. at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Mr. Girard was of the third generation of Girards who have been associated with Detroit since the early years of last century. His grandfather, Joseph Girard, who came from Alsace-Lorraine, settled on a homestead at what is now Gratiot Avenue and the Seven-Mile road. There Michael Girard, father of Sylvester L. Girard, was born, grew to manhood, married and remained on the old homestead. Nine children were born to Michael and Sophie (Chapaton) Girard. One of these, Sylvester, remained on the old homestead until he married Rose Young in 1895.

In 1907 Mr. Girard established a coal business, with which he has been identified for the last 18 years. At the time of his death he was the senior member of the firm of S. L. Girard & Sons at 5151 Gratiot avenue.

Surviving Mr. Girard are his widow; his father, Michael Girard; 71 years old. still living at the old homestead at Gratiot Avenue and Seven-Mile road; four daughters and three sons, and five brothers and three sisters.
