Usually useful Computer Tips.........or just casual reading.

1) A reboot will generally solve more than 50 % of your PC's misbehaviors, and it's a very cheap fix! (Sometimes Windows just needs to put away the "toys" and then take them back out of the box to restore order).

2) Never underestimate the ability of a good, up-to-date, anti-virus software and appropriate Microsoft web site updates to keep your computer "healthy". Neglecting either will eventually cost you much more than the initial money for the anti-virus program and the time outlay to update Internet Explorer and/or Windows.

3) Lose your mouse and can't figure out how to shut down your PC using only the computer keyboard? Simply press the Windows logo key (usually located to the left of the space bar) to retrieve the "Start" menu and, if your computer is not locked up, use the up arrow key to select "shutdown" and then the enter key to select "OK". It's not Aristotelian logic but often saves pulling the plug with possible resulting file fragmentation.

4) Have multiple programs open simultaneously and want to switch between them rapidly? Give the mouse a rest! Hold down the "alt" key and press the "tab" key. The pop up box will allow you to tab to the next desired program and to open it by releasing the "alt" key.

5) What is a computer virus? Like a biological virus, a computer virus is something you don't want to get. Computer viruses are small programs or scripts that can negatively affect the health of your computer. These malicious little programs can create files, move files, erase files, consume your computer's memory, and cause your computer not to function correctly. Some viruses can duplicate themselves, attach themselves to programs, and travel across networks. In fact opening an infected e-mail attachment is the most common way to get a virus.

Go to the web site below. It's a great glossary of computer terms!
