Researching a family can be a very difficult job. Laura has begun to develop the history of our line of the Girards. It appears that our first ancestor on these shores was Joseph, who arrived in the Detroit area with his brother Christopher around 1833 after an apparent trip across the Erie Canal. It is possible they were joining other relatives in the Detroit area, since some Girards were among the founders of Detroit in 1703.

Now you see the challenges awaiting us. We are fortunate that we've found others also researching the line (as you can see from the family tree below, there are a LOT of cousins out there).
